The Maths section carries 30 questions worth 120 marks, making it the section where ranks are most dramatically separated. The syllabus spans a broad range of topics drawn from Class 11 and Class 12 mathematics, but not every topic contributes equally to the paper. Unlike Physics and Chemistry, where conceptual understanding can carry a student through moderate questions, Maths demands speed, accuracy, and familiarity with specific problem types. Some chapters appear in almost every session, carry multiple questions, and follow well-defined patterns. Probability and Statistics: Consistent and Accessible

Probability questions are primarily based on conditional probability, Bayes theorem, and binomial distribution. These are conceptually limited topics with a small number of question formats. Statistics questions on mean, variance, and standard deviation are nearly always straightforward and formula-based. Together, these two topics offer two to three reliable marks with minimal preparation time compared to calculus or coordinate geometry.

How to Approach Do or Die Chapters in the Revision Phase?

  • Solve a minimum of 50 previous year JEE Main questions from each do or die chapter before attempting full-length mock tests. Pattern recognition in these chapters is built through repetition, not just conceptual study.
  • Time yourself on individual chapter tests. In the actual exam, the JEE Main syllabus expects candidates to complete 30 Maths questions in 60 minutes. Any chapter where your average solving time exceeds two minutes per question needs more drilling.
