How to Prepare for JEE Advanced 2027
About seven months remain before the likely exam month. Use the time with a plan that matches the official pattern.
- Start with the syllabus. Mark every unit in Annexure I of the brochure and tick it as you finish. Do not rely on a coaching list alone.
- Practice in the CBT format. The mouse, the on-screen keyboard and the review palette take getting used to. Use the official mock tests.
- Train for two long papers. Each paper runs three hours, and both count. Practice back-to-back sessions with a break between them.
- Work on reasoning, not recall. The brochure says the questions test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability. Solve problems that need multi-step thinking.
- Secure your Class XII score. You need 75% (65% for SC, ST and PwD) or a top 20 percentile rank. A weak board result can cost you a seat.
- Keep subject balance. The minimum is set for each subject, not only in total. One weak subject can block your rank.
- Track official news weekly. Check jeeadv.ac.in for the brochure, schedule and any syllabus notes.
JEE Advanced Result 2027
After the exam, candidates can view and download their recorded responses from the portal. The authority also releases a provisional answer key. Candidates can submit their responses by the last date. The final answer key and the result are released together.
- Category-wise All India Rank (AIR) is provided on the official website after result declaration.
- Candidates are also informed via text message on the registered mobile number.
- Individual rank cards will NOT be sent to candidates via post or email.
How Is the JEE Advanced Rank Calculated?
Candidates who appeared in both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are considered for ranking. The following criteria are used to calculate the rank lists:
- Marks in each subject are the sum of that subject’s marks from Paper 1 and Paper 2.
- The aggregate is the sum of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- Ties are broken first by higher positive marks. If the tie remains, higher Mathematics marks win, then higher Physics marks.
- If a tie remains, the candidates share the same rank. There is no waiting list.
Minimum Marks to Qualify
A candidate must clear the minimum in each subject and in aggregate. The table shows the minimum percentage of marks required to qualify the rank list:
| Rank list | Minimum in each subject | Minimum aggregate |
| Common rank list (CRL) | 10.0% | 35.0% |
| GEN-EWS and OBC-NCL | 9.0% | 31.5% |
| SC, ST and all PwD rank lists | 5.0% | 17.5% |
| Preparatory course rank lists | 2.5% | 8.75% |
JEE Advanced 2027: AAT
Candidates who want a B.Arch. seat must also pass the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT). B.Arch. program is offered only at IIT (BHU) Varanasi, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee. Only those who clear the JEE Advanced 2027 will be eligible to sit for the AAT exam. The AAT is a single three-hour paper in English. Candidates bring their own drawing and colouring aids. There is no separate AAT rank. Seats go by JEE Advanced rank among those who pass the AAT. Its syllabus covers freehand drawing, geometrical drawing, three-dimensional perception, imagination and aesthetic sensitivity, and architectural awareness.
What After JEE Advanced 2027: Admission Through JoSAA Counselling
Admission depends on merit, category and seat availability across rounds. Seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs and other government-funded technical institutes are allotted through the JoSAA Counselling. Candidates fill in their course and institute choices online. JoSAA publishes its own business rules and schedule separately on josaa.nic.in.
The table lists the programs for which the IITs admit through JEE Advanced
| Program | Minimum duration |
| B.Tech. | 4 years |
| B.S. | 4 years |
| B.Arch. | 5 years |
| Dual Degree B.Tech. and M.Tech. | 5 years |
| Dual Degree B.S. and M.S. | 5 years |
| Integrated M.Tech. | 5 years |
| Integrated B.S. and M.S. | 5 years |
| Dual Degree B.Tech. and MBA, or B.S. and MBA | 5 years |
IISc Bengaluru, several IISERs, IIST Thiruvananthapuram, RGIPT Rae Bareli and IIPE Visakhapatnam, also use JEE Advanced ranks.
JEE Advanced Reservation 2027
Seats are reserved as per Government of India rules. PwD candidates with at least 40% impairment get 5% horizontal reservation within each category. Here are the JEE Advanced reservation criteria mentioned:
| Category | Reserved share of seats |
| GEN-EWS | 10% |
| OBC-NCL | 27% |
| SC | 15% |
| ST | 7.5% |
| PwD (horizontal, in each category) | 5% |
Supernumerary seats for female candidates are also created so that every IIT reaches at least 20% female enrollment in its undergraduate programs. Each IIT has two preferential seats for Defence Service candidates.
JEE Main vs JEE Advanced
Many first-time aspirants mix up the two exams. They work as two steps of one path. JEE Main is the entry step. JEE Advanced decides IIT admission. The table compares them using facts from the brochure.
| Feature | JEE Main | JEE Advanced |
| Conducted by | National Testing Agency (NTA) | Seven zonal IITs under the JAB |
| Role | Admission to B.E./B.Tech. programs and the qualifier for JEE Advanced | Admission to IIT programs |
