- There is no age limit criterion applicable.

Candidates must have passed Class 12 from the central/state boards. NTA also accepts 10+2 equivalents, including NIOS and three-year diplomas. Foreign qualifications need AIU equivalence certificates.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2027: State of Eligibility
State code of eligibility matches the state where you passed Class 12. This decides your quota access. Native place or residence does not matter. For example, if a candidate passed Class 12 in New Delhi and lives in Noida, UP. Then the state code is Delhi, not UP.
- You pass Class 12 in one state. Later, you take improvement in another. Original passing state counts—not improvement state.
- NIOS students must select a state as per their study centre’s location.
- Indian nationals passing Class 12 in Nepal/Bhutan: State code determined by the passport’s permanent Indian address.
- OCI candidates’ state code of eligibility is similar to that of Indian Nationals. While OCI Candidates passing from an abroad institution are eligible for the All India seats quota only. Home State quota is not applicable in NITs/IIITs/CFTIs.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for NITs, IIITs, IIEST & GFTIs
- Aspirants aiming for NITs must have passed class 12th with a minimum of 5 subjects and atleast 75% aggregate marks.
- SC, ST and PwD candidates should score at least 65% marks.
- Candidates must rank in the category-wise top 20 percentile among successful Class 12 board exams.
NIT+ System programs require specific subject combinations in Class 12, based on ranks from Paper 1/2A/2B.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for Other Institutes
Other institutions may adopt the eligibility criteria mentioned above in JoSAA/CSAB counselling. Colleges affiliated with state universities can create their own rank lists based on prescribed rules.
- B.Plan requires 50% in Mathematics and 50% aggregate in the Class 12 qualifying exam.
- For the B.Arch course, Physics and Mathematics are compulsory, plus one from Chemistry/Biology/Technical Vocational/CS/IT/Informatics Practices/Engineering Graphics/Business Studies. Must secure 45% aggregate or 10+3 Diploma with Mathematics at 45%.
