Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Based on the last 3 years’ trends, the JEE Main 2027 seat matrix is expected to have more seats than 2026.
In 2025, the seat count grew by 1,958 seats over the previous year. Whereas in 2026, with an addition of 4,470 seats, the total capacity is 67,323.
NITs reserve 50% of their seats for candidates whose state of eligibility matches the state where the NIT is located. State of eligibility is determined by the board and the state in which the candidate appeared for class 12. The remaining 50% is open to all candidates under the All India Quota.
OBC-NCL is a vertical reservation with dedicated seats, while PwD is a horizontal reservation that applies within each vertical category. An OBC-NCL PwD candidate competes within the OBC-NCL PwD horizontal pool, not a separate general PwD pool. The JoSAA system handles this automatically when the candidate correctly declares both statuses during registration.
JEE Main Seat Matrix is provided on the JoSAA’s website, i.e. https://josaa.nic.in/. You can also check the seat matrix from the article above.
The reservation criteria include General (50.5%), OBC-NCL (27%), SC (15%), ST (7.5%), EWS (10% over and above existing categories), and PwD (5% horizontal reservation across all categories).
Yes. Seats for Foreign Tag candidates are supernumerary (in addition to the regular intake) and are limited to up to 10% of the programme-wise seat capacity at each IIT/IISc.
