JEE Main Exam Centers 2027 are the cities allotted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) where candidates appear for the examination. For JEE Main 2026, NTA provided 284 exam centers across India and 15 centers outside India, a reduction from the 300 domestic and 24 international centers available in 2025. The JEE Main 2027 exam center list is expected to follow a similar scale and will be published in the official Information Bulletin on jeemain.nta.nic.in.
During the JEE Main 2027 registration process, candidates can choose up to 4 exam city preferences in order of priority. NTA allots the exam city based on availability and the candidate’s preferences. The exact exam center (venue address) within the allotted city is communicated only through the Admit Card, released 3 to 4 days before the exam. The city is informed earlier through the JEE Main City Intimation Slip, typically released 10 to 15 days before the exam.

How to Choose JEE Main Exam City During Registration?
Candidates can select their preferred exam cities during the online JEE Main registration at jeemain.nta.nic.in. Here is how the process works:
- Step 1: Log in to jeemain.nta.nic.in with your Application Number and Password after completing Step 1 of registration.
- Step 2: In the JEE Main Application Form (Step 2), look for the “Choice of Examination Cities” section.
- Step 3: A dropdown list of all available exam cities will be displayed. Select up to 4 cities in order of preference. Your first preference is the most preferred city.
- Step 4: Review your choices carefully before submitting. City preferences, once submitted, can only be changed during the NTA correction window (dates announced separately).
- Step 5: NTA will allot an exam city based on your preferences and seat availability. If your first preference city is full, NTA will try to allot your second preference, and so on.
Important: If none of your 4 preferred cities is available, NTA may allot a nearby city. Always choose cities realistically, pick the ones closest to your home or where you can easily arrange a stay.
JEE Main Exam Center Allotment: How NTA Assigns Centers?
Many candidates wonder why they get a different city than their first preference. Here is how NTA’s city allotment works:
- Seat-based allotment: Each exam city has a fixed capacity based on the number of available computer centers. Once a city reaches capacity, no more candidates are allotted to that city.
- Preference order: NTA tries to allot your first preference city. If unavailable, it moves to your second, third, and fourth preferences in order.
- No city available from your list: If all 4 of your preferred cities are full, NTA may allot a nearby city from the same region. This is more common in states with fewer exam cities like Ladakh, Lakshadweep, or northeastern states.
- The reduction in 2026: NTA reduced exam cities from 300 to 284 in 2026 and international centers from 24 to 14. This means competition for popular city preferences is slightly higher. Candidates should choose realistic city preferences rather than only targeting metro cities.
How to Check JEE Main City Intimation Slip?
After the city allotment is done, NTA releases the Advance City Intimation Slip on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Here is how to check your allotted city:
- Step 1: Visit jeemain.nta.nic.in
- Step 2: Click on “Download City Intimation Slip” link for the relevant session
- Step 3: Log in with your Application Number and Password or Date of Birth
- Step 4: Your allotted exam city and tentative exam date will be displayed
- Step 5: Download and save the slip as PDF.
The intimation slip shows only the city, the exact exam center address (venue, hall) is available only on the JEE Main 2027 Admit Card, released 3 to 4 days before the exam date.
