JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern: Check Marking Scheme, Total Questions

NTA releases the JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern in the information brochure. The exam is conducted in 2 sessions. Paper 1 totals 75 compulsory questions (300 marks). Paper 2A has 77 questions (400 marks) while Paper 2B features 100 questions (400 marks). 

All three papers (1, 2A, 2B) have 5 compulsory numerical questions in Section B. Each paper has the same marking scheme.

JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern: Paper Wise

JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern features three papers across two sessions (January/April). 

  • Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) has 75 compulsory questions (60 MCQs + 15 numericals) worth 300 marks. The exam duration is 3 hours with three sections: Physics, Chemistry and Maths (25 questions each, +4/-1 marking). 
  • Paper 2A (B.Arch) totals 400 marks: Maths (100), Aptitude (200), Drawing (100). 
  • Paper 2B (B.Planning): Maths (100), Aptitude (200), Planning (100). All numericals mandatory, CBT except Drawing.

FAQs

Ques. What if two options in an MCQ are correct?

Ans. If more than one option is found correct in an MCQ, then the following marking scheme will be considered:-
Correct/Most Appropriate Answer: +4 marks
Incorrect Answer: -1 mark
Marked for Review (without selecting): 0 marks
Unanswered/Marked for Review: 0 marks
Multiple Options Selected: +4 awarded to ALL candidates who attempted that shift (if the correct option needs dropping) 

Ques. Can I appear for both Paper 1 and Paper 2A on the same day?

Ans. Yes, the duration for the combined exam is 3.5 hours, with separate shifts for each paper.

Ques. Is language change during the JEE Main exam allowed?

Ans. Ans. No, language must be selected during JEE Main registration only. No changes permitted afterwards.

Ques. Do PwD candidates get extra time in the JEE Main exam?

Ans. Yes, PwD candidates receive 1 extra hour (4 hours total) along with scribe and calculator facilities. Scribe-eligible PwD candidates get 20 extra minutes per hour of exam time.
